Junior Rowing

In the summer, junior rowing takes place on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. All rowers need to be at the boatshed at 5.30pm to help get the boats out, ready for the session to start at 6.00pm.

A Junior is any rower who is under 16 on 1st September each year. The junior categories for racing are split into Under 14 and Under 16, but very often its difficult to tell them apart from senior rowers. The only give away is they are required to wear lifejackets at all times on the water. All coxwains must also where a life jacket when taking out juniors.

Ilfracombe Pilot Gig club follows the Child Protection procedure and guidelines drawn up by the Cornish Pilot Gig Association (CPGA).

Cornsih Pilot Gig Rowing is now offered as an option in GCSE PE. If you are a Junior and would like to use Gig rowing as an option for your PE GCSE, please get in contact.

New Rowers are always welcome, check the new rowers page for details on when the next taster sessions are being run.
