Bronze day for Ilfracombe, and a suntan to boot

A win in both the Veterans catagories sealed Ilfracombe third spot at the Bridport Regatta on Saturday 6th July.Stunning weather and sea conditions came at exactly the right moment to
make a brilliant day of racing with the wonderful backdrop of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast.

A depleted Ilfracombe crew, in their newest gig, Rogue, took on the very long course that started at West Bay harbour and headed off towards Lyme
Regis, before making two sharp turns and heading back along the shoreline in front of hundreds of spectators and holidaymakers alike.

Barnstaple also made the journey to Dorset with their gig, Lady Freda, and a small contingent of Torridge rowers took part as members of scratch crews.

The most spectacular win of the day went to Ilfracombe’s Ladies Vets, who outclassed the field, coming in well over a minute ahead of their nearest
competitors.

The majority of the wins came from local crews, Swanage and Weymouth, who narrowly took first and second spots over Ilfracombe, respectively.
